The New iPad – To Buy or Not to Buy?

This Wednesday brought about one of the most highly anticipated released in the history of Apple, though suffice to say those with a vested interest were left with the usual question marks floating around the heads. No iPad 3, no iPad 2S and no iPad HD – instead simply the ‘New iPad’ as it appears to have been lovingly dubbed. Of course, new name or no new name there will be tens of millions considering a purchase and needing a helpful tip one way or the other off the fence, which can be compounded in the case of those already owning an iPad. So…to buy or not to buy the latest brainchild of San Francisco giant?

NewcomersFor those not already in possession of an iPad, the choice as to whether or not to invest in the newcomer really depends on what is wanted or needed from the device. The entry-level Wi-Fii only version of the new iPad will retail as of next week for $499 and offer 16GB of storage, a quite stunning Retina quality display and faster processing power. Those looking for more storage and 4G LTE connectivity can expect to pay up to an eye-watering $829. In short, what buyers are getting for their money is a more powerful overall tool with a sharper screen, though functionality-wise the new iPad does exactly the same as the iPad 2 – which just so happens to have now undergone a price reduction to $399 or maybe less. Of course, the latter doesn’t come with the same bragging rights…which of course can be priceless to some.

Current OwnersA dilemma indeed as given the way in which the iPad 2 pretty much offers the same experience as the new iPad aside from behind the scenes power and improved graphics, is it really worth an upgrade? Well, for HD movies and images the new iPad stands alone, but given the way in which web content is still 99% low definition, the difference might not be noticeably most of the time. What’s more, the window for selling off your existing iPad or iPad 2 for a decent price may well have already passed, therefore the choice upon upgrading may be that of accepting a pittance or keeping it in storage gathering dust behind the old diesel storage cans in the garage for eternity.

The furniture in the bedroom was 15 years old, was out-dated and out-fashioned and out-living its purpose. In short, it was falling apart. We have been looking for new bedroom furniture for years and always delaying the final decision to get a new one. We liked many things along the years but the mere thought of the work associated with getting rid of the old furniture as selling it out or simply dumping it and the successive efforts to bring the new one was simply too much for us. And there was also the issue of money. Some of the lovely designer stuff we loved was simply outrageously expensive.

My husband and I were somehow getting used to the idea that getting new furniture will never be easy and at the right moment. Then we got an Ikea catalog from a friend and started saying to each other “Look at that…That surely cannot be that cheap…”. The furniture was simple, unpretentious, basic and looked sturdy. Not so different than what we wanted.And the prices, boy! Sure, you have to go get yourself and if needed, to put the furniture together yourself but that was perfectly feasible, our friends reassured us.

So, one sunny Saturday we found ourselves parking in front of the nearest huge Ikea outlet and some 2 hours and a half later we were heading back home with a full set of bedroom furniture. We even saved some money of our planned budget that could go for a new living room sofa. The fact is, shopping at Ikea was a piece of cake. The variety of models is sufficient and we got some nice help from the shop assistants, the warranty services sounded nice and considering that any additional expenses will go only for fuel services, we were extremely happy to solve our bedroom issue at some great prices.

Bought used laptop on Ebay

I have always been slightly reluctant to shop online. I guess I am from the old school. Having heard of so many frauds that happen online, I mostly find myself at the back seat when it comes to shopping online. However my girlfriend is not like me. She is pretty brave I would say. She likes to try various websites, especially the ones that is advertised on the magazines she gets every month.

I recently broke my laptop after trying to fix one of the hinges. I actually had to use a folded pillow and some support from the wall to keep the screen up. Money is something that no one wants to spend for unexpected things especially when Christmas is on the way and expenses are ready to go over the head. My girlfriend recommended me to buy a used laptop through eBay. I have known eBay for long and have even seen adverts of it on display stand in some stores.

I started looking at various options eBay had to offer. I was particularly attracted to the auctioned items. Some of them were very cheap and very much in my range. I bid for one laptop and lost it as someone bid higher than me. For the next one I thought that I will bid at the last moment, not giving time for others to bid more than me but was beaten again. That’s when I started checking more about bidding and found that there is something called automatic bidding and with this feature you can put in the maximum you can spend for an item and eBay will do the bidding for you accordingly. So for the next item I put in the maximum range I could go for a particular laptop and every time someone placed a bid higher than me, eBay would automatically put a higher one from my side. Finally I won the bid and thankfully I did not reach my bid limit so not only did I get the laptop cheap but also got cheaper than I was ready to spend.

Ebay - Heaven or Hell

My adventure with Ebay started around 3 years ago when I needed a cheap mobile phone while I was residing in France and a friend recommended getting one on Ebay. I was a bit skeptical and although I had been shopping online for quite a while back then, I still was not fully comfortable buying products over the Internet. It’s useless to say that I gave it a try and was soon hooked up full-time. I found the cheap mobile device I was looking for in no time, the delivery was fast and I loved the experience to be delivered at home and also to be able to save so much money.

So I got my mobile, and to be honest I got quite many other things from Ebay in the following months. Clothes, cosmetics, books and DVDs, not to miss some backgammon sets as gifts were all arriving steadily in the next few years and I’ve had little or no complaints to make on Ebay. Sure, some products were not exactly I had imagined and some were not as much useful as I wanted them to be, but to be honest, their descriptions on the Ebay pages have always been fair and considering the money I was paying, I have always been pretty happy with the results. The system introduced by Ebay makes it easy and safe for both buyers and vendors and soon enough I was also selling my redundant shoes, clothes and devices while having fun and even making some good money.

The Kindle Reaches The Classroom

Learning is being taken to the next level in our schools today. Gone are the days when only the textbooks and the notebooks are depended upon for learning. Gone are the days when a pupil will have to laden his backpack with pens and papers.

The new trend in the classroom

The new trend that had been noticed in the classroom is the Kindle. Although the kindle has not been around for very long, t is currently of those devices or gadgets that seem to make sense and is having a profound social impact in terms of the way we read books. Many people may not understand the idea of using the Kindle in the classroom.

In many schools, Kindle is being used for guided reading. It is not used in higher level for this purpose, since the pupils here will not need any guided reading at this educational level. But first to fourth grades of most schools are making use of it. In the second grade of some schools, the Kindle is also being used for intervention reading.

Students in higher educational levels are also making use of the Kindle. It helps them to connect to the internet easily and download very important textbooks. They are also be able to read the text books easily on the Kindle unlike through other readers.

The kindle now in its third generation has a large hard drive and users can also connect an external storage device so that they can store larger files unto a good usb flash drive or an r4 card.

Becoming the victim of credit card fraud was something that I had never expected although I know that it happens to millions of people every day. I think I was most surprised only because I work for a law firm and I guess I didn’t believe that someone would be stupid enough to try and steal from lawyers. Fortunately for us we have a great credit card company that is very helpful when dealing with this type of issue. However, as part of the process it was my responsibility to contact the merchants that had approved to fraudulent purchases and file a claim with them also which I suspected would be no big deal, I was clearly wrong.
One of the two merchants I had to contact was iTunes and for all the money and power the company has one would think they could invest a little into their customer service. I obtained the customer service phone numbers for each merchant from the lovely representative at my credit card company and given instructions to follow as to how to file the claim with the individual companies. The first company I spoke with had wonderful service and was extremely helpful, it took no more than 10 minutes and I was able to file my claim. When it came time to call iTunes it was a very different story.
I dialed the 800 number as given to me by the credit card rep and verified by matching it to the number on my credit card statement however, all I received was a prerecorded message telling me if I had any problems with my account that I should log in online! Hello?? I am trying to file a stolen card claim; I don’t have an iTunes account using the business credit card. After trying all the defaults like Press “1″ for a customer service representative to no avail I became completely aggravated. I mean what was I supposed to tell the boss, “sorry we are stuck with bogus iTunes charges because they don’t have any telephone customer service?”
I decided to call back the credit card company and tell them what happened; the customer service agent put me on hold and tried herself with no results as well. She came back on the line sounding a little irritated also and assured me that they would investigate it and find a way to contact the company. I was grateful and within hours had an email from the credit card company confirming that they had removed the charges and would contact us if they needed any further information.
We received our new cards in the mail the next day and our statement was credited for the bad charges. While having a credit card get stolen is never a good experience, it has taught me a lot about how important good customer service is. I am hopeful that when I have to return the paper shredder we purchased online I won’t have any problems, but like most things in life these days one just never knows.

I have had the chance to use many of the online shopping services while looking for certain products. And just like designers love www.colour-graphics.co.uk this how I love websites where you can purchase the best of law books, as I am doing a law degree. So I started ordering books from Waterstone’s - and I must admit it was a struggle. The people from the bookstore were incompetent when I had to return an item simply because they did not know anything about editions and authors etc. So I tried Oxford University Press direct purchase website. And again my products were not what I expected - some of them did not even look new probably because they have spent too much time in a storage unit.

Ebay also failed me - I did not get any book at all when purchasing. And thus I was disappointed and finally getting angry at the online shopping services. And finally, I reached Amazon as a solution. My first purchase was made on Friday and suddenly on Monday I got my order. I understood this has been some quite convenient first order gift - a super quick delivery.

So when you treat customers like that, you actually win their debit cards. I ordered from Amazon again and I got my order for three working days. Within my box I also found some quite cool vouchers which I happily used when I ordered again. So after searching for the best online bookstores, I found only one multi-product site which delivered me the best products.

So I would advise any student and book-lover - shop at Amazon simply because they would treat you nicely and you give you the best of the products you have placed as an order.
